Merit Park's kids club stays open until 02.00 on Friday and Saturday nights and closes at midnight the rest of the week. For a family looking at a hotel for a Cyprus holiday with children, the first yardstick is therefore not the star count but the club's hours and the ages it accepts. The water park question is separate, because not every property with a club has a water park, and those that do run only in the summer months.
Club Ages, Water Park Season
Nearly all the big resorts in Kyrenia, Bafra and Famagusta have a kids club, and at most of them the age band is 4 to 12. Under-fours vary by property. Elexus takes these children too, on condition a parent stays with them; inside the club, separate units called “Liliput Houses”, “Mini Lab” and “Mini Cinema” operate. Merit Park runs a separate group called Minies for ages 4-6, with Lego and story time built around that group. Babysitting is available on request and for a fee at Elexus, Salamis Bay Conti and Merit Park…So up to what age does a child stay free? The cut-off shifts by property and promotion, so give the date of birth at booking and pin the price down against it, because there is no specific price for 2026 at the moment.
On the water park side there are two limits: the calendar and height. Salamis Bay Conti's pools and slides are closed outside 1 May to 31 October, and the Limak in Bafra takes guests from 19 March to 31 October, so for a winter holiday the options in Bafra narrow accordingly. Kaya Artemis applies age and height limits on the long slides such as the rafting and black hole runs — reception has the list — while Elexus steers little ones to separate mini slides. All of these properties have a casino, but it runs in its own section, and under-25s are not admitted anyway.

Shallow Beaches
When choosing a beach with a small child, the first question is how many steps it takes for the water to get deep. On Acapulco's kilometre-long beach the depth does not drop off suddenly, and a child can wade out for metres; hotel guests pay nothing at the gate, outside visitors do. The Alsancak public beach, a quarter of an hour from central Kyrenia, is free and has a restaurant. On the same strip, “Escape Beach” is no longer a commercially run beach as of 2026 — the sand has been leased by the Security Forces Command since 2024 and the sunbed-and-club setup is gone. In Famagusta, Glapsides has parking for 300 cars, shower cabins, and no entry charge.
When adding Alagadi to a Cyprus holiday plan with children, factor in the hours. Because Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas nest here, the beach is closed to visitors between 20.00 and 08.00; a family hoping to watch hatchlings emerge at night registers with SPOT in advance and goes down to the shore only with a volunteer and without lights. With a baby or a toddler these hours can be tiring; calling in at the Goat Shed information point during the day is easier.
An Indoor Stop for the Midday Heat
In July and August the coast measures 33-36 degrees by day, and the inland plain around Nicosia 37-42. To keep a child out of the sun between 12.00 and 16.00, the water park and beach shift to the morning and the castle and market to the afternoon. The Shipwreck Museum inside Kyrenia Castle is a good stop for that hour; the remains of a ship from the fourth century BC are displayed in an enclosed, shaded hall — no diving required, you walk through. In Nicosia, Bandabuliya is a covered municipal market with halloumi and local produce on the stalls, and right next door the Büyük Han is lined with craft shops. A family driving the Karpaz road will meet free-roaming donkeys by the roadside; the animals are used to people but stand close to traffic, so do not encourage a child to feed them by hand. The sea is 27-29 degrees in these months, so an early-morning swim costs nothing in terms of cold.
Child Seats in a Rental Car
Because traffic flows on the left, the side a child should look toward when stepping out of the car is the opposite of what visitors from Turkey (and other right-hand-traffic countries) are used to; in the first few days the whole family needs to remind each other when getting in and out. Seat belts are compulsory for every passenger, with a per-person fine for not wearing one — please take this seriously, because unbuckled passengers are a very common sight. The rental firms' recommendation is a child seat in the back for under-fives and a booster cushion for ages 5-10; this remains a recommendation, not a strict age limit. Does the seat come with the car? At most firms it is an extra item supplied on request, and the summer stock runs out fast. Put it in your booking message or bring your own seat — some airlines carry it free of charge, ask when buying the ticket. For a family taking the bus from Ercan, KIBHAS charges nothing for a child under 5 travelling on a lap, and two pieces of luggage up to 30 kilos are included in the fare.
Which Hospitals Accept Turkish SGK Insurance
The Turkish Health Ministry's travel health page lists two hospitals for the TRNC (North Cyprus): a family covered by SGK, Turkey's state insurance scheme, can be treated under it at Near East University Hospital and Kolan British Hospital. Other clinics near the hotel areas fall outside this agreement, and there you need cash or private insurance; private health insurance can be taken out on the same terms and prices as in Turkey. The emergency number is 112, medicine prices run 30-40 percent higher than in Turkey, so bring any medication your child takes regularly. The emergency department of Kyrenia's Dr. Akçiçek Hospital runs 24 hours and has a paediatric clinic. The on-duty pharmacy rota is given on the 185 line; between 15 May and 15 September extra duty pharmacies are assigned to the coastal areas, and pharmacies in the hotel districts take a duty shift twice a week. During a Cyprus holiday with children, in the event of a fever or a fall, call 112 first, then go to the nearer of the two hospitals where SGK is accepted.
Baby Rules on the Plane
At the border, every child including babies needs a photo chip ID card or passport — the old-style Turkish paper ID is not accepted — and a family travelling with one parent should also carry the other parent's letter of consent. When buying tickets for a Cyprus holiday with children, Pegasus defines an infant passenger as a child under two on the day of the flight. Babies are not accepted on flights in the first 48 hours after birth, and between 2 and 7 days a doctor's report is required. An infant travels on a lap with an extension belt rather than in a separate seat, and one adult can accompany only one infant; on Turkish Airlines too, ages 0-2 travel on a lap. Does the pushchair go into the cabin? You can hand it over at boarding and collect it on landing, but this arrangement is not available at every airport — ask the airline in advance for Ercan. A family sending a child aged 6-12 alone can get Pegasus's unaccompanied minor service only through the call centre or a ticket office; the app does not sell this service.
