Merit Park Hotel & Casino (Kyrenia)

Opened in 2013 and refurbished in 2024, the ultra all-inclusive Merit Park Hotel & Casino stands in Karaoğlanoğlu, Kyrenia. Guests arriving with a “sandy beach” in mind may find the shoreline a little surprising, because the coast is rocky and the sea can only be entered from the jetty. Families looking for sand therefore end up spending their holiday right by the pool. On the transport side, the distance to Ercan Airport is quoted at anywhere between 31 and 45 kilometres depending on the source. As we have mentioned before, the sensible way round this inconsistency is to plan the journey by time rather than distance, and the transfer takes somewhere between 45 minutes and an hour.

At the Start of the Alsancak–Lapta Strip

The full address is Kervansaray Mevkii, Karaoğlanoğlu Caddesi, postcode 9930. Reading this as central Kyrenia would be entirely wrong, because Karaoğlanoğlu is a separate settlement to the west of the town, and the Alsancak–Lapta coastal strip begins exactly here. Most of the Merit group’s Kyrenia hotels are lined up along the same stretch. By contrast, the eastern flank where properties such as “Cratos” and “Elexus” are clustered is far busier, while this western end is noticeably calmer. The price of that calm is paid in transport. Getting down to the bazaar or the harbour is not walking distance; it requires a vehicle, so guests who want to spend their evenings at the harbour need to plan every outing in advance.

Two Room Counts That Get Mixed Up

Merit Park Hotel has 285 rooms, as stated in Net Holding’s official records. The figure of 273 that frequently and misleadingly appears in search results is in fact the room count of Merit Royal Diamond, which the group opened in 2022. The similarity in area and name means these two hotels, opened nine years apart, are constantly confused. When it comes to room types, Merit Park’s system is quite clear. Guests are offered standard rooms, the 28-square-metre Action Standard, family rooms, suites and king suites. Action Standard rooms take a maximum of three adults and one child, or two adults and two children. Families of five therefore have to choose a family room instead, or book two separate rooms.

Rocky Shore, Three Pools

The hotel sits right on the sea, but there is no sandy beach; you enter the water from a platform. Since it is not possible to wade out through shallows, families with small children find the pool side more practical. There is plenty of choice there: two outdoor pools, one heated indoor pool and a separate children’s pool. For anyone wanting to swim in the cooler months, that indoor pool is the only option. With the pools so prominent, the question of an aquapark naturally comes up, so is there one? There is neither an aquapark nor a slide park, so families looking for slides can cross this hotel off their list. The sea’s counterpart is the “Beach Bar”, which is included between 10.00 and 18.00.

Three Meals at Safran, Three À la Cartes in the Evening

The package covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, all-day snacks and the drinks specified by the hotel. All three meals are served in the main restaurant “Safran”: open 07.00–11.00 in the morning, 12.30–14.30 at lunchtime and 19.00–21.30 in the evening. These tidy-looking hours contain a gap, because lunch service ends at 14.30 while dinner does not begin until 19.00. The four and a half hours in between are covered until 17.00 by A’la Turka by the pool, which is also included. So what is left for anyone wanting to spend the evening somewhere other than Safran? Three à la carte options: the Italian restaurant Gia Mare, the fish restaurant Fora Balık, and Kekik Meyhane, laid out as a traditional meyhane. All three serve between 19.30 and midnight, but they require a reservation and an extra charge. All-inclusive ends here. The four bars across the resort, on the other hand, are included in the package. The same included-versus-extra distinction continues in the spa: there is a hammam, sauna and steam room, massages and body treatments are charged, while access to the fitness centre is, of course, free.

Until Midnight at Meritta Club 754

The kids’ club is called “Meritta Club 754”, and the admission band is 4 to 12 years. Doors open at 09.00 and close at midnight from Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, and at 02.00 on Friday and Saturday. That is late by Kyrenia standards, because at many resorts the club empties out around 23.00. Good news for parents who want to linger over dinner. . .Inside, the 4–6 age group is separated off under the name “Minies” and can join Lego, cinema and storytelling activities suited to their age. The club’s lower age limit is, we could say, very strict: children under 3 are not admitted, and those who need it use the hotel’s paid babysitting service. As the free-stay age for children changes with the promotions on offer, you need to call the hotel before booking to confirm the current position.

On the adult side, the same boundary logic works in the opposite direction. The hotel’s 4,380-square-metre casino operates in a separate section, and guests under the age of 25 and residents of the island are not admitted under any circumstances. A similar age barrier applies on stage: entry to the concerts held throughout the year is included in the stay, but under-18s are not allowed into the hall.

One of Net Holding’s Eight Hotels

One of the eight Net Holding hotels in North Cyprus, Merit Park is the group’s second-largest property after the 340-room Crystal Cove. Six of the group’s hotels are concentrated in Kyrenia; Merit Lefkoşa (2007) is in the capital, and the oldest property, Royal Gardens (1998), is in Iskele. The other Kyrenia hotels, in order of size, are the 273-room Royal Diamond, the 131-room Royal Premium, the 125-room Royal and the 29-room Liman Hotel. With so many Merit hotels bearing similar names, checking your booking documents is essential.

Nightly Rates, Winter Calendar

For the August–September–October 2026 period, ultra all-inclusive nightly rates start from the 20,000–21,000 TL band (roughly 380–560 dollars). Once again, a reminder that these figures are not fixed: dynamic pricing is in play, changing instantly according to occupancy at the time of searching, the date and the room type… In individual searches for October or November you may see entirely different amounts, and we recommend getting the definitive figure directly from the hotel. The property does not close in winter and offers promotions specific to that period. However, the hotel being open does not mean the beach or the outdoor pool can be used. If you are planning for December or January, the sensible thing is to check with the hotel about the availability of outdoor facilities before booking.
