Merit Royal Diamond Hotel (Kyrenia, Alsancak)

On the booking form, before you even reach the room type, you will read this line: “Guests under the age of 14 are not accepted.” “Royal Diamond” is Merit’s third hotel on the Alsancak strip, and this rule is what sets it apart from the first two. The hotel’s own website presents the 273-room ultra all-inclusive resort, opened in 2022, through its age rule and the ways it differs from its sister properties. The sequence began with “Merit Royal”, continued with “Royal Premium” and was completed with this hotel. In other words, it is the age line, not the price list, that tells you what this hotel is.

The Spot on the Bay, and the Road from Ercan Airport

The hotel sits on the shore of Zephyros Bay in the Alsancak area; Kyrenia town centre is 10 kilometres away by car. Since it shares the same bay with Merit Royal and Royal Premium, and Crystal Cove is on the same road as well, a guest ends up in the middle of four properties. So how long is the drive from the airport? Every website we checked gives a different distance, so we think it is more reliable to look at the journey time. Transfer companies reckon on around 55 minutes. For those who want to go into town, one agency page promises a free shuttle at certain hours, but it lists neither the times nor the route, so it is worth having that line confirmed before you book. The sandy beach and the jetty belong to the hotel itself, although a road runs between the hotel and the beach, so guests cross it in a single crossing. On the pool side, bar service is available at the edge of the nearer outdoor pool, and there is an indoor heated pool on the spa floor. No source, however, gives the total number of pools.

How the 273 Rooms Are Divided

The bulk of the room stock is in the standard category: 189 of the 273 rooms are 35.5-square-metre standard rooms, three of which are adapted for disabled access. They have sea or mountain views and a balcony, and take a maximum of three adults. The upper tiers consist entirely of suites: 26 junior suites, 1 Royal junior suite, 40 queen suites, 4 Royal queen suites, 6 king suites, 2 Royal king suites and, at the very top, two Royal Diamond King Suites. The “Royal” prefix on the list is certainly not decorative; its meaning becomes clear in the top two tiers. In the “Royal queen” and “Royal king” the biggest difference is that the sea view is guaranteed, with the option of a jacuzzi or a private pool on the balcony. So the short route to securing a sea view at Merit Royal Diamond is to look at these two tiers. The same layout does not appear this way on agency pages, where you may come across names such as “Deluxe Sea View” or a 158-square-metre “Royal Suite” (check the websites before you go). Which tier these names correspond to is unconfirmed, because agencies list the tiers under their own names. In short, go by the square metres, not the room name.

From Imperial to the Steak House

The three main meals are served in the “Imperial Main Restaurant”, and the hours are fixed: breakfast 07.00-11.30, lunch 13.00-15.00, dinner 19.00-22.00.

Local and imported alcoholic drinks are included in the same concept, so no extra bill appears once you have sat down at the table. The à la carte side is limited to a single restaurant. “The Steak House” specialises in red meat, requires a reservation and a charge, and is closed on Mondays. For a resort of this scale, a single à la carte is clearly on the low side, but two separate agency pages give the same figure, so do not expect more. The gaps between meals are filled by the “Tea Lounge”, open from 10.00 until midnight. Added to this are the Lobby Bar’s 24-hour service, a poolside bar that also serves shisha, and a separate Whiskey Lounge. The upshot is this: after the main restaurant closes at 22.00, the places with the lights still on are the Tea Lounge and these bars; there is no other door.

The Spa Floor Reached by Lift

The “Royal/Diamond Olive Spa & Wellness” covers roughly 3,500 square metres and is reached directly from the rooms by a dedicated lift, so there is no need to pass through the lobby. Down there, the real issue is the split between what is and is not included. The indoor pool, the comfort pool with jacuzzi, the Turkish bath, sauna, steam room, snow fountain and fitness room are included in the accommodation rate. By contrast, the seven VIP massage rooms, the salt room, the pilates and yoga studios and body treatments are charged separately. Opening hours are 09.00-20.00, the squash court operates in the same window, and on the meetings side there is a conference centre with 12 halls. Everything listed so far is indoors. So do the outdoor pool and the beach operate in winter? There is no confirmation specific to the Diamond, though Kyrenia’s seafront hotels can close those areas once the cold sets in. On the other hand, the fact that a December price appears on the list shows the property is on sale in winter too. A guest who reads the two together will have the beach confirmed separately at the time of booking.

The Age-14 Rule

Merit Royal Diamond does not accept guests under the age of 14. Four agency pages state the same threshold, one says 18, but the majority agree on 14. The meaning of the rule becomes clear when you look next door: at Royal Premium, a mini club runs for age groups of 0-3.99, 4-7 and 7-12. The two properties on the same bay have completely different target audiences; one hosts families with children, while the other can only accept guests aged 14 and over. The absence of a “family room” among the Diamond’s room options confirms this. At the casino entrance, a 25-year age limit applies, imposed not by the hotel but by North Cyprus law. The guest group best suited to this concept is honeymoon couples; for them a standard package with a 20 per cent discount is offered, on condition of a minimum three-night stay and a marriage certificate no more than six months old.

From the Poker Table to the Concert Hall

Royal Diamond is part of the Merit group’s hotel and casino complex in Alsancak. Because sources contradict each other on the size of the casino area, and it is not entirely clear whether the venue belongs to the hotel alone or to the group, it is difficult for us to give a definite figure in square metres. On the poker side, however, the picture is far more transparent: the Merit Poker Classic, held from 27 April to 7 May 2026, took place at this hotel. With players from 34 countries taking part and more than 1,200 entries expected, the event drew over 2,500 tourists to the area. The events hall that hosted this huge crowd is in fact as old as the hotel, since the concert and ballroom opened on 10 July 2022 with a Hadise concert. On the same stage, Selami Şahin and Alya performed at New Year 2026, and Bülent Serttaş in May. In earlier seasons, names such as Assala and Petek Dinçöz were hosted. These are, of course, past programmes; the new season’s events calendar will become clear with the hotel’s announcements.

Price Range and Ratings

As of August-September 2026, the starting nightly price for the cheapest room at Merit Royal Diamond is in the 36,700-37,100 TL range. The figures we mention here come from two agency pages, one of which also lists a discount of up to 25 per cent at the summer peak. The floor shown for December is around 31,900 TL, so even in winter the price does not fall very far. Sea-view rooms and suites sit above this band, and the July-August peak can push the upper limit. On the ratings side, Tripadvisor shows 4.7/5, with around thirty reviews, placing it sixth or seventh on the Alsancak-Karavas list. The items praised are cleanliness, attentive staff and the variety of food. There are complaints too: some reviews say the pizza and soup arrived cold, and one dated February unfortunately mentions cats wandering around the breakfast area. These are of course individual records; the majority who determine the rating are happy with the cleanliness and the staff.
