Kyrenia Boat Tours: Routes, Prices, Companies

The first question anyone asks a Kyrenia boat tour operator on the phone is almost always the same: "How much per person?" Yet the figure you hear cannot be compared with anything unless you know what kind of day that money buys, because a boat selling a short loop in front of the harbour answers that question too. So does a day that stretches to eight hours with lunch. And the difference is not small. The number only starts to mean something once you ask separately about the route, the food, the age requirement and how you get to the harbour; the operator pages and passenger reviews we examined diverge at exactly this point.

The Four Items a Price Covers

A tour leaving the same harbour and calling at the same bays can show up with three different prices on three different pages. There is no hidden mark-up behind it. As of September 2026, prices vary across a wide range depending on the operator, the tour length and the season. On top of that, the gap between a short harbour cruise and a full-day tour with lunch runs to several times over in the examples we collected. A single per-person figure is therefore no yardstick.

Our advice for a Kyrenia boat tour is to split the bill into four items: boarding the boat, the time spent in the water during swimming stops, the lunch and drinks served on board, and the ride from your hotel to the harbour. The real question is how many of these four are included in the price you are discussing. The listing page usually states it clearly; if it does not, ask before you book, because otherwise you pay the difference in cash later. You face the same risk when you look at a sign on the quay and hand over a deposit on the spot, since the figure quoted there mostly covers boarding only, with lunch and transfer billed separately.

The Route Runs Along the West Coast

With the scope settled, the next question is where the day is spent. A classic Kyrenia boat tour route heads west from Kyrenia and calls at the well-known bays along the coast. The stops that come up most often in the sources are the Kervansaray, Escape, Denizkızı and Mare Monte stretch. You may also see the area around the Civil Defence beach on the lists. That said, this line is not as fixed as it seems: depending on the weather and the swell, some operators turn the route east, towards Acapulco. The day described to you on the boat in the morning may not match what you actually got by the time you return in the evening.

When we dug into online sources, particularly forums, we found the same uncertainty extends to the swimming stops. The number of stops printed in the brochure not matching reality is a recurring complaint in passenger reviews. And you rightly wonder how much of the time you paid for is actually spent in the water. Nobody will tell you outright before departure, because the number of stops depends on the weather and sea conditions, so it pays to read the figure on the listing page as an estimate rather than a promise. The difference lands directly in your wallet.

How Departure Times Split the Day

Full-day tours leave between 09:00 and 10:30 and last six to eight hours. The half-day option is limited to three or four hours. Then there is the evening product. Sunset tours, listed under the name "sunset", leave the harbour at around 17:00 and finish at about 22:00 with dinner and entertainment; their selling point is the view, meaning St. Hilarion Castle under its night lighting and the moonrise.

There is a small trap to watch out for here. Do not position the evening tour as the cheap alternative to the day tour. It is a separate product and includes dinner, so putting the two side by side and comparing prices will mislead you. A similar calculation applies to the half-day option: what you pay falls along with the shorter duration, but the cost per hour usually goes up.

Is Lunch Served on Board?

On full-day tours lunch is usually served on the boat and included in the price; the menu is mostly grilled fish or chicken, with meze, salad and seasonal fruit on the side. Drinks are also included by most operators, but exactly which drinks are included varies from one operator to the next, and this is why an unexpected bill appears at the end of the tour. It is also the item most often left off the listing page. Do not expect a meal on half-day tours; the boat is already heading back to the harbour in that time.

What Families with Children Should Check

There is no single age limit that applies across Kyrenia boat tour operators, and looking for one will lead you astray. One operator sets a minimum age of eight and requires "good swimmers", while Vela Yachting publishes its child pricing openly on its own website: children aged zero to six go free and those aged seven to twelve pay half the adult price. That difference can completely change the day's budget for a family of three. Can you apply one operator's rule to another? You cannot; every business sets its own limit, so you need to ask about the age requirement directly before booking.

Life jackets and first-aid equipment are declared as standard on the operators' own websites, but no institution publishes an independent inspection source that verifies this.

The Season Runs from April to October

The active period opens in April or May and closes in October. June to September is both the busiest stretch and the one in which departures run most regularly, but this peak has two faces, and you can usually tell which one you have chosen by looking at the price. In midsummer it is easy to find a departure, but prices are at their highest in those weeks. At the two ends of the season, on the other hand, the figure drops. This time the departure guarantee weakens, because with most operators the tour depends on a minimum number of passengers.

Factor in the weather too, since water sports and swimming stops can be cancelled depending on conditions. Some operators refund the fee for cancellations made at least three days before the tour date, so finding out this condition when you book can save a day's budget.

Getting to the Harbour and Choosing a Company

Excursion boats leave from the Old Harbour of Kyrenia, known locally as the "old port", and this is the address printed on your booking confirmation; the Kyrenia Tourism Port, opened in 1987, is a separate facility reserved for ferry and commercial traffic. No tour boats leave from there. Since the Old Harbour is right in the town centre, you can walk if you are staying centrally. Some operators also include a hotel transfer in the package, but this is not a standard service, and whether it is included in the price varies by operator. Businesses that provide a transfer ask you to be ready in the hotel lobby about ten minutes before departure.

When choosing a company, the two names confirmed by two separate sources are Sabrina Boat Tours and Vela Yachting; you can compare the other signs lined up along the harbour in person. If a figure is not accompanied by an age requirement and a cancellation policy, there is no Kyrenia boat tour offer to compare in the first place. A business that spells these out has handed you something you can weigh, even if its price turns out higher.
