Oscar Resort Hotel (Kyrenia)

When you tick the "hotel with water slides" filter on holiday booking sites, "Oscar Resort" will come up, but let me set your expectations straight from the outset. Unlike the island's enormous aquaparks, this place is on the scale of a proper "old-school family hotel", with just two slides and one wave pool.

The modest, intimate character of Oscar Resort Hotel comes from the property's long history... Erdem Oskar founded this hotel in the late 1980s as one of the first resorts in the area, and the moment you walk through its door and step into that nostalgic garden and its calm evening routine, you will immediately feel how different, unassuming and peaceful its character is compared with the exhausting mega holiday factories of 2026.

The Door on Hasan Esat Işık Sokak

The hotel entrance is one and a half to two kilometres from the town centre, and the road is walkable. There is little shade at midday in summer, so those two kilometres feel longer than they are. The castle and the harbour are a five-minute drive away. Ercan Airport is around thirty-five kilometres away. For guests who would rather not walk, the hotel runs its own shuttle, which goes down to the centre three times a day except on Sundays; at other hours, transport is left to taxis. The shuttle being squeezed into three runs a day is the real deciding detail for guests with evening plans, because anyone planning to go down to the harbour and return late has to write the taxi fare home into the budget from the start. Although the centre sits at the edge of walking distance, it is a short drive away, which is why the bazaar and the harbour remain reachable in the evening hours. The garden just beyond the door spreads over an area of twenty-three thousand square metres, and every section of the property sits within it.

Rooms Not Counted in the Lobby

The absence of an official capacity plaque hanging in the lobby, and the fact that the hotel does not declare a clear room count on its own website, has split the travel agencies' listings in two. Some platforms say 254 rooms while the others insist on the figure of 220, and the figures in the 400s that occasionally appear on the market we rule out from the start, since they do not match the available data according to the findings of our research. To avoid confusion, it should be noted that the group's five-star "Vuni Palace" in Karakum is an entirely different and newer property, so applying its room capacity here would be a mistake.

Even though the numbers fly around, the names of the room types stay precisely the same on every platform... Standard sea view, standard land view, Villa Suite Double, Club Gallery Duplex, Club Studio and Royal Suite.

Among these types, the 24-square-metre standard room offers more than enough space for couples, while the 50-square-metre family room more than covers the breathing room that large families with children need. Let us underline this: if your plan is a stay longer than a week, the first option you should focus on is definitely the apartment-style Club Studio. On long holidays, the independent kitchen and living arrangement that room gives you goes well beyond luxury details and turns directly into a matter of basic comfort.

The Price of Twenty-Four Square Metres

We do not have a single dated figure for the nightly rate of that twenty-four-square-metre standard room. The amounts on agency pages are several times apart from one another and do not belong to the same date, so the current offer needs to be obtained directly from the hotel or an agency. The choice of date is the main variable that determines the amount, because at the coastal hotels in the region high season falls between late March and October, and in the winter months the outdoor pool and beach services generally stop. If you are planning for the period between November and March, a single question to the hotel before booking is enough: which sections are open in those months? So what you will be comparing is not a bare number but which date and which room type the offer is written for.

The Strip of Sand and the 150-Metre Pier

The path that winds down from the lush green garden takes you straight to the hotel's private beach. The ground is sandy, but the truly striking detail is that enormous pier stretching almost 150 metres from the shore out into the sea (it glides along right beside the beach like a long snake). As the sun climbs and the day wears on, the crowd drifts in a natural flow from the sand to this pier platform; in the afternoon the real activity happens there.

When the beach and the pier are completely full, everyone's inevitable second stop is "the poolside". There, alongside more than one outdoor pool, an indoor pool for cooler days, two water slides and a tiny wave pool await you. About those two slides that were mentioned: from my observations and from the holiday dynamics of families with children, I know very well that an energetic seven-year-old will wear those slides out and lose interest by noon, but a three-year-old will climb the same slide five times in a row without ever tiring of it. If you want to understand the spirit of the property and that intimate family scale, I will tell you, as in the previous articles, that this is the only measure. Right by the pool's edge, the children's pool and playground line up, while the mini club, which welcomes children aged 4 to 12, opens its doors only in the summer months.

Dinner from Seven to Nine

When the sun goes down, the water side empties and the crowd walks to the restaurant entrance; what the concept is becomes clear at that hour. "Oscar Resort Hotel" does not operate all-inclusive; the concept is half board, and breakfast is served as an open buffet between 07.00 and 10.00, dinner between 19.00 and 21.00. For those who want to make do with the morning meal, there is also a bed and breakfast option.

The only meal left out of the package is lunch, so a guest sitting down to eat in the middle of the day pays that bill separately. On the dining side there is one main restaurant, two open-air restaurants and one à la carte restaurant; the number of bars stays at three, and among them "Savoy Tavern" is where the live music takes place on weekend evenings. The spa floor is open during the same hours, where a Turkish bath, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and plunge pool sit side by side; massages and similar treatments are charged separately.

The last stop of the evening is the casino under the same roof. This section of Oscar Resort Hotel is known by the name "Skull King" and in its normal routine stays open twenty-four hours. However, two separate booking sites have written that the section went into renovation and would be out of service for at least three months; as of today that period has passed and the hall may have reopened. The rest of the hotel is not affected by this, and room and restaurant services continue to be listed as normal. If the hall is open, the same rule applies as across the island. Guests under 25 and residents of North Cyprus are not admitted to the casino. So this hotel is not an aquapark with two slides but a half-board resort whose evening is set between seven and nine, and anyone who books knowing this will not be surprised.
