On Trip Rent a Car's website, two pages sit open side by side: the current North Cyprus car rental price list and an older blog post. For the same Nissan March, one says 2,300 TL, the other 2,000 TL. The model hasn't changed, nor has the model year; the only difference between the two pages is a price increase that landed on the list later. Car rental prices in Cyprus move at exactly this tempo — a list is valid only until the next update. Lists get revised through the year, seasons turn, and at companies that work in pounds sterling, the exchange rate enters the picture too. That's why "how much per day?" has no one-line answer. The answer depends on four things: which class, which month, which company, and which currency you're reading the price in. Ask with all four in mind and what you get isn't a single figure but a band — and that band is what you build your budget on.
Daily Figures from a Small Automatic to a BMW X1
Where lists say economy class, you'll find small automatics like the Nissan March, Suzuki Swift and Toyota Vitz. On local companies' late-August 2026 lists, this class opens at 2,300-2,500 TL. In winter the same cars drop as low as 1,700 TL, and on the comparison engine the cheapest option, a Ford Focus, shows at 1,673 TL. On the SUV side, local lists are thin. Trip's list has a single SUV, a BMW X1 at 6,000 TL a day; anyone after a small SUV looks to the aggregators — on Yolcu360, an Opel Mokka for early September is 5,213 TL. On the luxury list, the car's age moves the figure directly: a 2016 Mercedes E220 is 6,000 TL, a 2020 model 7,000 TL. Same car, four years' difference, a thousand lira.

Local Company, Aggregator, Corporate Brand
You can find the same Suzuki Swift at three prices through three doors. On a local company's own site, the average value is 2,400 TL. On a Yolcu360 query for early September 2026, it's 2,840 TL. The car doesn't change — a 15-20 percent intermediary margin lands on top. Scroll the page a little and you see a Renault Clio at 3,946 TL, a relatively upper-mid figure some 60 percent above the local economy list. Behind the third door are "Avis", Budget and Garenta; you've seen all three in Turkey, and all three operate at Ercan. Their daily rates run above the local fleet's; in return you get a newer car and a call centre to ring when things go wrong. The local companies' fleets are built from 2017-2023 models — the car is a few years older, and the price is lower in proportion. The decision here comes down to duration. On a three-day holiday, the difference on a Swift is a little over a thousand lira; paying that for a newer car is a perfectly understandable choice. The longer the rental, the more the difference compounds — and the local list pulls ahead.
February Floor, August Peak
In the comparison engine's annual data, the cheapest month is February at a daily average of 1,813 TL; the most expensive is August at 2,840 TL. The gap is 57 percent. Put the same sentence from winter's side and it reads: someone coming between November and March keeps a third to a half of what a summer visitor pays in their pocket. Anyone looking at the calendar and thinking "I'll rent cheap in September" is mistaken; the first days of the month still sit at August levels, and the real drop waits for October. That's why the Swift shows at 2,840 TL on Yolcu360's 31 August-7 September query. Local companies' promotion season is November-February. What does acting early earn you? There's an example from last winter. Garenta gave 44 percent off rentals between 25 March and 30 September to those who booked through the app by the end of February 2026. The campaign was open across Turkey, but since Garenta also operates at Ercan, travellers to the island could use the discount too. So if you look in winter and lock in the summer, your gain is roughly on that scale.
What's in the Price, and What Isn't
Car rental prices in Cyprus are one line on the list and several lines in the contract. At most local companies, the daily figure includes accident insurance with an excess. The excess means this: for minor damage, payment up to a certain amount comes out of the renter's pocket, and that amount is 500, 1,000 or 3,000 euros depending on the company. Ercan Havalimanı Rent a Car works with an average of 1,000 euros; return the car spotless and that money never comes up. What falls outside the cover is the same at every company — glass and tyres, headlights and mirrors, scratches picked up while parked, and a lost key. The bill for these can land directly on the renter, so watch out for them during the rental. Upgrading to full cover is possible for an extra fee — the company will tell you the amount, because there's no set figure. The island is short end to end anyway, so mileage is mostly unlimited. Most local companies don't charge separately for an additional driver or for pick-up at Ercan. Child seats vary by company: one charges for it, another includes it in the list.
The deposit runs separately. Most companies ask for between 3,500 and 10,000 TL, in cash or as a card hold, returned when you bring the car back; there are companies that work without a deposit, like Ercan Havalimanı Rent a Car, but treat that as the exception and travel with that much limit free on your card. All the established companies set a three-day minimum; even if you want the car for two days, you pay for three. If you're under twenty-five, some companies add a daily surcharge — and don't publish the amount on their site; you only learn that figure on the phone during booking. Most local companies take payment at handover, in cash or by card; the one condition is that the card is issued in the renter's own name. At Ercan Havalimanı Rent a Car there's no commission on cards other than Amex, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before, and a return delayed by more than two hours counts as a full day. Companies That Price in Sterling, and the Exchange Rate
Which currency you see the price in moves the maths too. Trip, Ercan Havalimanı Rent a Car, Ayaz and the aggregators write in TL. Sun Rent a Car, operating since 1978, and the English-language sites work in sterling: at Sun, a Hyundai Grand i10 starts at 32 pounds, a Toyota Corolla at 51, a BMW X1 at 92. There's also a group of companies publishing the same fleet in TL on one site and sterling on another; the 2,300 TL economy car is listed at 30 pounds on the sterling page. Divide one by the other and you see the exchange rate in the company's own head: around 77 lira per pound. The day sterling climbs above that figure, the 30 pounds on that page slides above the 2,300 lira in the shop window — and the renter pays the difference. Excess amounts, meanwhile, are written in euros at almost every company. Ask for the TL amount quoted to you on booking day in writing. If the exchange rate is somewhere else on handover day, you'll have the document in hand.
From the Daily Figure to the Total Bill
Companies write a daily figure, but at the till you pay a three-day or weekly total, so it pays to build the maths on the total from the start. Take a summer-peak economy car at 2,700 TL a day, the middle of the band. Three days makes 8,100 TL. On top, roughly 18 litres of petrol for 250 kilometres — around 1,200 TL at the 68.12 TL litre price; the total lands at 9,300 TL. We explained how fuel is priced in our fuel article. Over a week, the rental is 18,900 TL, plus 43 litres of fuel for 600 kilometres at 2,900 TL; total 21,800 TL. Is there a weekly discount? No company publishes its rate openly, so we left it out of the calculation. Rentals over 10 days get special pricing, and on monthly rentals the daily unit drops sharply. The quote you get from the company shows the rate. The deposit stays outside this total; it comes back to your card when the hold is released, so it doesn't count as a budget item — but it does eat into your card limit.
